not so serious thing i am thankful for: pandora. seriously. how would i get through the day without some pandora?
serious thing i am thankful for: growing up in a Christian household. when matt comes home and tells me stories about the kids he subs for or i watch the news or see kids in walmart, etc etc i realize just how different life is for some kids and how lucky i am that i grew up in the family i did. and how different it is being a kid now vs. when i was a kid. i guess i should also be thankful for that. i can't imagine what life is like for some of these kids. and the words and things they know. things i did NOT know when i was their age. it actually makes me incredibly sad for them. and makes me even more thankful that i have the family i do and i grew up in the time and way that i did. thankful thankful thankful.
on to less pressing matters, or kind of pressing.....my turkey is still a little frozen. my fridge works too well. hopefully it will thaw out soon, now that i have adjusted the fridge and said a few not so nice words. also i'm making a crust-less pumpkin cheesecake for thursday. matt and i are going to go over to his friend's house (who just moved here, who we had dinner with last week). it should be fun. i'm starting to miss my family a lot though! i think i'll probably be on the phone with them a lot thursday. meaning more than i am usually which is at least twice a day. i guess that's closer than a lot of families are, but i'm thankful i am still that close to them! :)
if you have a second please say a prayer for my grandfather. he has an abdominal aneurysm and they finished his tests and decided that instead of surgery they're going to do a procedure that involves going up the aorta through his groin. he's very nervous and convinced he's going to die. he could definitely use a few prayers!

being thankful: i'm behind!
whoops i dropped the ball and i'm quite behind. today is day 14 and i think i left off on day 9! i do have a good excuse though. i travelled to virginia and d.c. this weekend to visit family and friends and attend a friend's bridal shower. i had a very uneventful drive there and back which i'm thankful for.i got to meet my friend kate's baby boy jack, go wine tasting with friends, and catch up with some friends i haven't seen in awhile. i also got to relax and catch up with my family. great weekend all around! i did miss matt and the dogs though and was very thankful to get home last night and cuddle with them. here are some pics from the weekend! :)

thankful - day 4: my sister
today i am thankful for my little sister! i'm so lucky to have her in my life. our relationship has changed over the years from fighting to when we were little, becoming playmates as we got older and now to growing to be sisters and friends. she's always there to talk about anything. we used to have sister days when we lived closer but we don't get them as much anymore. i'm looking forward to the holidays and getting to have a sister day soon! :)
love and miss you krystle!!! thanks for being a great sister :)

labor day trip to virginia
for labor day matt, the dogs and i piled in the car and drove to virginia! i snapped not one picture while there. sigh, i am not the best picture taker. we did however have a great time! :)
we left on friday night at about 6 pm. on the way up we went through eastern north carolina on I-40 i think. it was a pleasant drive. we even went by two exits where the gas stations had doggie areas. i'm pretty sure cajun NEVER would have made it if we hadn't stopped and let him out to run. we got in to virginia at about 2 am, super late but we were so happy to get there!
saturday was a low key day. we had breakfast with my family and then caught up. the dogs loved everyone, especially my uncle. that afternoon matt took a nap and i got a chance to hang out with the girls a little bit :) it was nice to catch up with just them. then that night my sister, brother-in law robert, matt and i went to applebees for dinner. we were going to go bowling but we got there just as rock n bowl was starting and the crowd was a little too rowdy and young for us haha (i'm taking like 16 years olds!). so we went home and played the wii! it was fun.
sunday i got up and had breakfast with my family and then matt and i headed off to visit his family who lives about an hour and a half away from mine. we went and caught up with his grandparents and their dog met cajun and lady. they had a blast running around the back yard. then we went over to his sister's mother-in-law's for a cook-out. we caught up with his sister and niece and her husband and their family friends. we had a great time there but the dogs were not happy. they had to be separated from us and were so loud. if they just been quieter! after that we meandered home and then ended up playing wii again with krystle and robert, more fun again :)
monday matt slept in and i went to chick fil a for breakfast alone with my mom. it was fun :) we just hung out together and enjoyed talking like we used to for our weekly mother daughter shopping trips. then we headed home and hung out some more. we all decided to have some chinese for lunch! because even though they are a small southern town they have the best chinese food ever! so tasty. then we started to pack up :( i didn't want to go and dragged my feet. we didn't leave until almost 8 pm. it was a loooooong drive home because we started so late. we pulled in to the apartment at almost 4 am. i got about 4 hours of sleep and then headed to work. BAD decision! oh well. it was worth it to see my family!!!!
the one other thing we did while in virginia was go and get sweet frog. if you've been to a frozen yogurt bar you know the concept behind sweet frog. SO tasty and fun. i got red velvet cake yogurt with caramel sauce and little chocolate caramel candies. oh my goodness so tasty. myrtle beach is apparently getting one soon and i can't wait!
i'm already counting down until i see my family again. that's really the one down side to moving to south carolina. not being near them anymore. i miss them like crazy. some days i so wish mom and i could just hop in the car and go shopping or go get lunch with gran and grandaddy. at least we get to be home for a bit at christmas! :) can't wait for that.
hope everyone is having a good weekend. we've had a low key one. i cleaned the house literally from top to bottom and went through a stack of papers i've been collecting. most of them were bills i had paid etc that needed to either be filed or tossed. it felt good to get rid of those! we went and grabbed breakfast out at our new favorite place yesterday called litchfield house. the best little hole in the wall every. their food is perfect and tastes just like gran was back their making my breakfast (even though it was lunch time we both still got breakfast, it's just so good!). matt is getting ready to watch football which means i'm going to catch up on some magazine readings and relaxing before another week starts. i love sunday nights i just wish they didn't have to end so quickly!

family
Family is such an important thing to me. I wouldn't be where I am today without them. I talk to my Mom, sister and Grandmother daily. I talk to my Grandfather and Uncle some, but to be honest I'm not a big phone person and neither are they. But, I do catch up with them occassionally :)
We've had quite a few health scares with my family in the last few years. My Grandfather had a massive heart attack in May 2009. He actually died but luckily when he had his heart attack he was surrounded by friends who were in the Coast Guard and CPR trained and literally within spitting distance of the Fire Department. Otherwise he wouldn't be here today.
Before that in 2007 we had crazy crazy times with my Grandmother. She went through more testing, poking and prodding than anyone I know. They diagnosed her with everything from leukemia to stomach cancer. But, after going in for exploratory surgery for what they thought was lung cancer they finally figured out what was wrong. Her Dr. (who I can't remember his name right now, he is an amazing surgeon in the Hampton Roads, VA area) went in and took samples from nodules in her lung. He felt something wasn't right and after came out to talk to us. Interestingly enough the week before he and some colleagues had been doing a discussion on Wegener's Granulomotisis which you can read about here. It only took him about 5 minutes of talking to us and suddenly (you could literally see the lightbulb go off in his head) he just turned around and left. My Gran spent the rest of the day in recovery and then 4 days in ICU and then a few days in a regular room. I think all in all she was there for about 2 weeks. The diagnosis: Wegener's. It's been such a large part of her life since then. Daily medications some of which are the drugs given to prepare people for organ transplant. Nasty drugs that take a lot out of a person. Luckily for us she's still here and I'm so lucky I get to have her in my life. But, she has to remember to take care of herself and to take it easy. She doesn't produce red blood cells like the rest of us and tends to be more tired. And she's NOT good at resting. She prefers to go go go.
Recently my Uncle has been going through some health issues as well that he doesn't want to discuss or have anyone know about. But, the news has been taking a lot out of both my Grandparents. They could use some extra love and prayers.
I luckily get to give them some of both very soon as Matt and I will be travelling to VA for Labor Day (maybe sooner if Hurricane Irene decides to hit the Myrtle Beach area this weekend...) and I'm so excited to give all of my family a hug and just spend time with them. Only 10 working days until we pack up the cars and the dogs and we head North! I think a car ride with those two is going to be quite interesting. We took a longer than normal ride (about 2 hours in the car) this weekend and while Lady slept, Cajun cried and cried and wanted to be held. Cajun does NOT like the car, he prefers getting himself places with his own four paws. So the 6 hours each way are going to be very interesting. I think I will pack some chocolate! ;)
