one year!

today is our one year anniversary! i can't believe it's been an entire year already. it feels like it has been a long and a short amount of time all at once. being married to my best friend is everything i could have ever dreamed of and more. i'm one lucky girl!

some things i've learned about marriage this past year:

1. it is hard work. people don't say this to scare you. it's just the truth. you have to make your marriage your priority and put it before other things. if you don't it won't last.

2. some days you're just not going to get along. who gets along with everyone every day? no one. no matter how much you love someone some days you just need to take a step away and have some me time. it doesn't mean you don't love them, it means you're human.

3. it's nice to have someone who has your back no matter what. getting to come home to matt and have him give me a big hug on bad days is the best thing i could ever ask for.

4. there's nothing quite like waking up to the person you love every day. really there isn't. my favorite is saturday mornings when we get to lay in bed and relax together.

5. it's pretty great to know who your plus one will always be.

6. getting to say my husband still makes me smile :)

7. many things test your marriage. our latest test has been buying a house. these tests highlight your differences and reminds you how important communication is. it also reminds you how different men and women are :)

8. sometimes you have to let go of people who aren't good for you. often that's a hard pill to swallow, but anyone or anything that tries to take priority over your relationship must go or must be changed so that it doesn't.

9.  people who write out weekly menu plans aren't over-achievers. they've probably just been married longer and know that planning what you're going to eat every night is annoying. and for some reason your husband does not consider half a bag of popcorn and a bowl of ice cream dinner. he also won't do cereal for dinner, but he can and will eat an entire box of cereal in one sitting. but, he calls it an appetizer.

10. a family calendar will save your sanity. write all of your pay dates, bill dates, important notes, appointments, etc on one calendar. otherwise some bills get forgotten and you have to beg and cry to get late fees taken off. some people are nice when you explain you're a newlywed and you're adjusting, others aren't, haha.

11. electronics are to men what shoes/perfume/jewelry/etc are to women. apparently you DO need more than one gaming system and a 50" television. your giant 36" tv that weighs more than your car will get some pathetic glances and you will be told how archaic it is until you cave and buy a new tv.

12. men never know where anything is. you will be asked at least once a day, where are my shoes, wallet, phone, pills, belt, socks, favorite t-shirt etc. you will probably know where it is because it got left in the middle of the bed, floor, couch etc. when you tell them where it is they will then ask you why you moved it.

13. you will find that dirty socks can be hidden in some interesting places. don't be afraid if you reach in to the couch and find many pairs.

14. the feeling you get when being introduced as his wife is irreplaceable, especially when he's bragging about you.

15. no wedding will ever compare to yours because the feeling of looking up in to their eyes and saying i do makes you feel like you're walking on a cloud for the rest of the day.

Happy Anniversary, Babe! Love you so much!!
